RE: Good Fisching Campgrounds in South AL, North FL

Go over to Frank Jackson in OPP. We've pulled bass out by rolling up our pants and wading 5 feet (mid calf) from the shore. Plenty of crappie (no limit), blue gill and cats too.

RE: Help to find hex (allen) bits

Thanks...HF works out fine. Had checked Sears and could not find..also called; they said they do not have (but post shows they should have them! Called HF and they are in stock. Did not think about HF for some reason :? Again, thanks...on my way.
I couldn't find them in Sears either, nor could any of the sales associates, so I went to the internet Kiosk and ordered them for in store pickup. Went to customer pickup and a guy handed them to me. I bought both of the 3/8 drive sets. Due to exceeding the wait time I also got $5 off my next purchase.
When I wanted an angle buffer they had on sale, I had to show them online that they had them in stock and on sale. Finally a guy came back from break and said they were in a locked cabinet under the power tool display. When I need something now I find him.

RE: The Brit B - Everybody say: Awwww; isn't that CUTE??

I ran across a pair of these a couple of years back in Detin Fl. they had European plates so I'm guessing they were shipped over for touring America.
Interesting that they are left hand drive.

RE: ARE POSTERS HERE IN DENIAL??

...are they just not ready to admit most on fixed incomes or have moderate salaries are just plain screwed? ...
From what I can tell most post on this subject are from a personal view not a socio-economic impact view. The folks saying they won't change are not in either group you mentioned and are only stating their situation. Most of the OP's around fuel prices start with: Will YOU change...
One group not mentioned are the "we want everything nows" and are stretched so tight on money any increase is a major issue. But that group won't admit it's effecting them, they have an image to protect.

RE: oil changing

I tried several of the suggestions I found here on the forum. Only one that worked for me was closing it up and turning up the heat for a few days, then airing it out.

RE: Newbies to the scene, used 5th has some probs. Help! :)

A/C - Is this a ducted system withe a thermostat on the wall or are the controls on the A/C itself? Also what brand.
The Fridge on gas could be several things:
1) Air in lines. Run the stove to help purge them. Even tehm can take several trys to start.
2) A spider has built a nest in the tube. Spiders and mud dauber wasps love to do this. Could be as simple as pulling the cover and clening it out.
3) The controller, thermouple or valve is bad. I'd ahve to consider how much I would put into a 14 year old fridge.
Resealing the roof and windows is pretty common every couple years. If you don't have damage yet just reseal everything. If what is cracking is the sealant (the word "seams" makes it sound like the heat seams used to join sections of roofing material during manufacturing) use a good quality silicone sealant. If the actual seams are seperating eternabond is the way to go.
There is a really good sight with how to's on RV repair but I can't find the link. If no one posts it before I get home I'll post it then.

RE: oil changing

Belair, will a racoon bite get ya a vet plate from the DMV? By the way, where yall go in Bama to get your rig worked on? Mines got some hub squaking.
Maybe, were you on active duty when he bit you:D I got mine for an injury during Desert Storm. I guess I should have clarified the kid couldn't read, the plate actually sayd Disabled Veteran. I don't get to use the handicapped space but I get 1/2 price at COE and National Parks.
As for work on a rig depends on what it needs, Montgomery as several decent RV dealers and a couple of bus and heavy vehicle repair places.

RE: Leaving hitch on 5th Wheel

I do it for short term. Say I have to pick up something large with the truck. After I'm done I put it back in.
If you do hang it on the hitch pin LOCK THE RELEASE HANDLE. Otherwise an enquiring mind can walk up pull the handle and drop your hitch.

RE: OH NO! What a mess!

k1hog,
Here is my dumping horror story. We had just spent the weekend with 2 other families. First couple headed out first. A little while later we headed to the dump station. Got in line and the 3rd couple pulled in behind us.
Trying to expedite things I skipped the step of checking the hook up with grey water and went straight to the black. Bad choice. I was using a brand new hose the kind where the hose is pushed on over the end and held by friction no clamp. As soon as I pulled the valve the hose came apart at the trailer end. I managed to get the valve closed got another better built but older hose out and finsihed the dump. In the mean time I got out a hose and started washing the station down. Had to have our friends wait while I pulled forward and finished the cleanup. Even then the odor lingered in the air.
The big difference is we are friends with the people. And at lest they still speak to us.
Since then I bought a flow-jet and can dump at home.

RE: oil changing

We were using a local quick lube place for DW's SportTrac until I took it in one Saturday.
It started out normal until the guy asked would I be paying by check or credit card? When I said cash, he told me I would have to wait for the manager to come back from McDonald's as he was the only one that "Knew How" to take cash.
So he comes back looks at the paperwork and asks me which fire department I volunteer at. Somewhat confused (I'm not a volunteer fireman) I ask what he's talking about. He then turns to the kid that can't take cash and asks why he marked it. He replies that I have some sort of special plate and goes to check it again. He yells back that I am a "disabled veterinarian". So I still get the discount.

RE: Sunbeam stand mixer

Last night I was using the electric carving knife and thought about this thread. Our GE carving knife is from DW's grandparents. They bought it in the sixties and it still runs like new.
KithcenAid seems to be one of the few companies that has stuck to making a quality product instead of trying to cut quality and lower prices. I look at our KitchenAid Classic (14 years old) as just breaking in good.

RE: Salt free bread

Not trying to flame anyone but their are some misconceptions in some of these posts.
1) salt doesn't effect yeast
from the red star yeast website Red Star Yeast
SALT controls yeast activity to achieve a slow, steady rise and it strengthens the dough structure; eliminating salt can result in a baked bread that has collapsed.
2) Sea salt is lower in sodium.
Try this in google "sodium in sea salt" one of the first hits will be the Mayo clinic. Sea Salt and table salt have the same sodium. The difference is iodine (commonly added to able salt). I have some fairly bad reactions if I get too much iodine so I use sea salt.

RE: My perspective on fuel cost

W4DBW,
A good analysis but as an analyst I feel compeled to add a couple of things.
A lot of family RV trips are to vacation destinations so hotels will probably be double your estimate. Check Destin Fl in the summer.
To get similar acomidations to a bunkhouse you need 2 hotel rooms or an efficiency even more dollars.
By the time we hit $5.00 they will have to raise rates even more (resturant prices too) so the employees can be paid enough to drive to work.
We have 5 trips booked already and don't plan on cancelling any. But hope others don't feel the same way. Reservations are hard enough to get now. Every parked Rv is another open spot.

RE: tap splice?

Ignore the dots, dashes are wire. Kind of primitive but it should give you an idea. Switches are drawn but are part of the assembly not seperate switches
As built
0 = terminal
\ = switch
* = bulb
12v ----------------------------0
...................................|
...................................\
...................................|
...................................*
...................................|
gnd---------------------------- 0
With fan
0 = terminal
\ = switch
* = bulb
X = fan
12v ----------------------------0---------0
...................................|.........|
...................................\.........\
...................................|.........|
...................................*.........X

RE: tap splice?

I'll try to explain....there is a ceiling light with switch on the lamp, there is no wall switch. It's over the master bed in 5th wheel. I at first thought of connecting fan wires to existing wire ends on lamp. But then realized that meant I'd have to have the lamp on inorder to have power to the fan. So that is why I'm going to use tap splice on lamp wires before they get to the lamp. I hope that's better, I can picture it but I'm the one drawing the picture!!!!
No, you can connect to the lamp connections it would form a parallel circuit.

Salt free bread

Just thought i'd pass this along. I've been working on baking bread wiht no salt. DW is on a low salt diet now. A lot of what I read said it couldn't be done becuase salt helps control the yeast. As usual I didn't listen.
I got it working pretty well. It is a bit light for spreading peanut butter but makes great toast, garlic bread etc.
Any way here it is.
Combine in bread maker pan:
1 cup warm water
2 teaspoons yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
Let foam for ten minutes
Add in this order:
1 1/2 tablespoons of honey
1/4 cup canola oil
3 cups bread flour (I prefer White Lilly)
Set bread machine for medium white and 2 lbs.
let cool completely before slicing.
If you add 1/4 teaspoon salt with the flour you can get a slightly firmer bread with still a fairly low sodium count. approx 45 mg per slice.
